Athletics Round-up: Mumbai

Reliance Foundation Youth Sports (RFYS) held athletics in the city of Mumbai on the 11th of December 2017. Priyadarshani Park hosted hundreds of Athletes, who were enthused throughout the busy, four-day event.

After successfully hosting athletics in cities like Hyderabad, Delhi and Bengaluru, RFYS athletics came to the city of Mumbai. On the first day itself, Rakesh Yadav from Maharashtra College bagged the Gold Medal in the College Boys 800m race with a run time of 2 minutes and 14 seconds. In the Senior Girls 100m race, Kirti Bhoite from Thakur College recorded an impressive run time of 12:51 seconds and struck Gold. Rosalin Lewis from Fr. Agnel Multipurpose came in second after recording a run time of 12:54 seconds, as the Senior Girls race turned out to be a thriller.

The athletics extravaganza resumed the next day, the most noticeable result throughout the day was Tanishka Shetty’s Long Jump of 5.34 metres which earned her the Gold Medal in Senior Girls category. Moving on to the 18th of December, the third day of RFYS Mumbai Athletics got underway in full swing. Pratham Kotiyan was the most talked about athlete, as he dominated the Junior Boys 200m event. Representing Ryan International School, he clocked a run time of 23.95 seconds and flourished in the category.

The fourth and final day saw a lot of athletes revelling, as a spectacular event spanning four days was about to end. As the finals of all the events concluded on a high, Srinivas Poojary stole the limelight by winning the Gold Medal in the College Boys 400m category. Clocking 52.26 seconds and brushing aside tough competition, his win added further charm to the event.
