RFYS Athletics City Championship concludes in Mumbai

The RFYS Athletics City Championship recently concluded with Mumbai hosting the final phase of the City Championships. With 14 cities participating in the tournament from all over the nation, the response from the budding talents was phenomenal and RFYS were successful in discovering some of the finest raw talents of the country.

The Athletic events were underway in Mumbai on 1st November across all the categories. It started off with a 5000m endurance test of College Boys and College Girls and one wouldn’t need to think before saying that the athletes stood up to all the expectations. Rakesh Bajrangbahadun Yadav of Maharashtra College clocked 16:19.35 seconds to finish first, while Ritika Gyan Singh of A. V. College clocked 24:18.95 seconds among girls to secure the top position on the podium.

The three days of exuberant participation produced some stunning performances. Judah Nathan Dsouza of St. Andrew’s College was adjudged the best in Senior Boys category for his best distance of 13.27 Mt. in the Triple Jump event. Shubham Vijayshyam Pandey marked 14.33 Mt. in the Shotput event for Junior Boys category. The newest category of the year, Sub Junior Boys and Girls, have given some great results as the competitive approach for their development has paved them the way for a bright future. Among boys, Mohd. Akbar Hussain timed just 57.05 seconds for the 400m race while Krisha Devendra Pisat of Gokuldham Highschool & Jr. College clocked 1:06.51 seconds among Sub Junior Girls to grab the top spot.

The Athletics Elite Camp held in Bangalore just before the RFYS Athletics tournament kicked off did pay its dividends throughout the tournament. Several athletes outperformed themselves, and one of them was Tanishka Shetty from DY Patil University. She bagged the top spot in Triple Jump event under College Girls category with the best attempt of 11.29 Mt.

The City Championship phase across all the 14 cities have now concluded and the ultimate round, National Championship, is around the corner. Later in November, these best athletes will travel to Mumbai to compete with the country’s bests. There isn’t much time left and these talented youngsters will be preparing to give their best.
