Aizawl hosts City Championship semi-finals

The semi-finals in Aizawl and the kick-off of the football tournament in the city of Shillong were the two significant events at the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports (RFYS) football tournament on Tuesday.

The day began in the city of Aizawl where two semi-final events in the Senior Boys category were the talk of the town. Staines Memorial School took on the Senior Boys of Govt. Chantlang Higher Secondary School. Staines Memorial school started off well and were dominant in the first half, scoring two goals. Govt. Chantlang Higher Secondary School came back with a special performance to score four goals and got a well-deserved 4-2 victory. H. Lalhmingchhuanga scored a hat-trick and was the Player of The Match.

In the second semi-final, Sihphir Higher Secondary School thumped Providence Higher Secondary School by a scoreline of 7-1 at full-time. Dawnga scored two goals to help his team reach the City Championship Final against Govt. Chantlang Higher Secondary School. The City of Shillong kicked-off its RFYS Campaign with a lot of zest where the Junior Boys of Om Roy Memorial Higher Secondary School edged past Brookside Adventist Higher Secondary School by a narrow margin of 1-0.

In Ahmedabad, New L.J. College scored nine goals in an emphatic victory over J.G. College. Sam International School impressed in their 6-0 win over Euro International School in Delhi. In Goa, Vrdas Gauncar Higher Secondary School secured a 6-2 victory over St. Andrew Higher Secondary School, while Rosary College of Commerce and Arts eased past Shree Damodar College of Commerce and Economics, as the score read 5-2 in their favour after full-time.

Aizza College of Engineering and Technology put in a wonderful performance to beat St. Joseph’s Degree and PG College 7-0. The Junior Boys of EMEA Higher Secondary School (Kondotty) defeated Govt. Higher Secondary School (Arecodu) 6-5 in an exciting penalty shootout in Kozhikode. K.J Somaiya College of Science and Commerce scored two goals in each half to end as 4-0 winners over Father Agnel Jr. College.
