Huge margins and close finishes dominate Tuesday

Games continued in full flow today on the eve of Diwali in the Reliance Federation Youth Sports football tournament, with nine cities hosting games across the country.

Starting off at Bengaluru, the venue witnessed a barrage of goals as teams unsettled the net time and again, starting with Parikrma who beat Apollo Convent by a score-line of 11-0. Kiran L was awarded the Player of the Match for his assists and brace. Competing on the same lines, Bethany High School did one better as they put past 12 against Nargund International School, with Alan Richard Tavares going on a purple patch and scoring a hattrick for his side.

Heading next to Hyderabad, Nasr Boys School and Marica High School put on a show to breeze past their opponents by scoring 11 and 8 goals respectively. What further highlighted their stellar performance was the fact that both also managed to maintain a clean sheet in the process.

Jamshedpur was no different as St. Francs De Sales School continued the trend of the day by beating Kerala Public School Burmamines by 11-1, with Bikash Biruli notching up four goals. But the later game saw B.P.M +2 High School score a late winner to break the deadlock and win the game 1-0, against Bal Gyan Peet High School Agrico, who were left dejected at the full-time whistle.

Kochi witnessed late drama as the game between Campion and Infant Jesus Public School headed to penalties after the deadlock could not be broken over the course of normal time. But the shootout turned out to be a completely one-sided affair as Campion scored and saved all three penalties.

A very similar display was seen in Mumbai as Maharishi Dayanand College of Arts, Science and Commerce managed to convert and save the first three penalties to defeat H.R College of Commerce and Economics, after a tightly fought contest saw no goals during normal time. Jai Hind College, on the other hand, had a much easier afternoon thanks to Neil Menezes, whose gameplay constantly caused nightmares for Guru Nanak Khalsa College. The end score was 4-0.

Kozhikode had a tensed atmosphere build up as WMO Arts and Science College and NSS College Manjeri couldn’t be settled over normal time either. The result hence had to be decided through penalties and it was WMO who emerged victoriously.

Finally heading to the North-East, Hardy Cliff Nongbri led the way for Shillong College, scoring four as they ran riot by putting 12 past Shillong Law College without conceding. But it was Damehun Syih, whose name will be all over the headlines in the city as by scoring eight goals, making sure St. Anthony’s College didn’t hold back as they won 15-0 against ICFAI University.
