Guwahati finale concludes City Championship round in RFYS

City Championships concluded today in the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports football tournament, with Guwahati becoming the last city to reveal Champions in the various categories.

Anchalik Jatiya Vidyalaya picked up the School Girls Championship trophy with a 3-0 win over Bethany School. Anchalik Vidyalaya were in control of the game throughout, scoring twice in the opening half and adding another in the second.

Hindustan Kendriya Vidyalaya bagged the Senior Boys Championship after a 3-1 victory over NPS - International School. Ritwik Pathak scored a brace in the first half after Suraj Marak had opened the scoring for Hindustan KV. Matters worsened for NPS in the second half when Saurav Kumar Ray was shown a straight red in the 80th minute. Down to ten men, NPS showed great character and got a goal back in the closing minutes of the game but it was a little too late for salvation. The College Boys City Championship was grabbed by North East Institution of Management Technology. They beat Arya Vidyapeeth College 1-0 to lift the trophy. The only goal of the match was scored by Manoj Bose in the 67th minute. The City Champions go on to represent the city in the East Zone Championship.

The West Zone Championship continued in Pune today. Fr. Agnel College, Goa became the first team to book their tickets to the National Championship after a 6-3 win over Spicer Adventist University. Shree M. P. Shah College also advanced to the National Championship after a 1-0 victory over Rizvi College. Thakur College, Mumbai and Don Bosco School, Matunga also registered wins in their respective zonal games.

Day two continued in Bengaluru and Delhi in RFYS athletics, as the cities crowned winner across multiple categories. In Delhi, we caught up with Subhadip Baag, the 200m College Boys winner, after his gold-winning sprint. The athlete who trains with Sandeep Sarkaria under the DDA scheme has a clear path in mind. “I think for me my future aspects are to get better and better and to represent India in the next Olympics,” he said, with a tone of deep-set determination. The Senior Girls 200m Champion is another determined athlete, Shaina Khan, who thanked RFYS to help give athletics a shot in the arm in the face of various other well-documented sports.
