The RFYS fever in the country is on an all-time high with the Football City Championship Finals resuming in multiple cities, post the Diwali break. Imphal hosted the first City Finals post the festival break and kicked-off in style. Alongside the footballing action, the final lap of RFYS Athletics 2018-19 got underway with the National Championship Finals being held at SAI Stadium, Kandivali, Mumbai. The second day of the Athletics National Championship 2018-19 will coincide with Guwahati hosting their finals of the Football City Championship.

Achalak Jatiiya Vidyalaya, Gharchuk, undefeated in the competition with four out of four wins so far, gear up to face Bethany Convent School in the School Girls category final. With a 13-0 victory in the Semi-Final, they look well on course towards grabbing the much coveted trophy. Bethany Convent School, on the other hand, have also been clinical so far. Bearing a 2-0 defeat against Achalak Jatiiya Vidyalaya, which was their only loss, they haven’t conceded in any of their other matches and have gone on to score 32 goals in four matches.

In Senior Boys category, the boys of Dispur Academy lock horns against WIPS Junior College. Dispur Academy’s journey in the league stages wasn’t exactly what you call a stroll in the park as they won most of their matches with narrow margins. However, once they were in the knock-out phase, they changed their approach completely, and their 11-0 and 8-0 victory in the Quarter-Final and Semi-Final respectively was a clear indicator of their true potential, on the other hand and gave a glimpse of what to expect from them in the final game. WIPS Junior College, on the other hand, won’t be an easy opponent either. They have won all of their seven matches and they have also managed to defeat Dispur College once by 2-1 in the league stages. From the way they have been playing so far, choosing a clear favourite seems difficult with both teams proving to be equally strong for the other. These equally talented and determined teams will surely create one of the toughest encounters witnessed in RFYS so far.

In the Junior Boys category, Bangfar Belguri Secondary School will go up against Ramfalbil Higher Secondary School. Bangfar Belguri Seconday School, having played 7 matches, have managed to win 4 matches and were held for goalless draws on 3 occasions. On the other hand, Ramfalbil HSS have won all their matches in the tournament so far. From a stat point of view, the odds are clearly in favour of Ramfalbil HSS, but on the actual matchday, these stats hardly bear any relevance. There’s no doubt that this fixture, again, will be an interesting one to watch out for.

Guwahati’s City Championship will come to an end with the College Boys category where Kokrajhar Government College and Pub Bongsor College will go all guns blazing to earn the ultimate prize. Kokrajhar Government College boys have earned a reputation to rise to the occasion and win it for the team, as they’ve been quite dominant in all their fixtures so far. However, they cemented their position in the finals with narrow victories of 3-2 and 1-0 in the QF and SF respectively. Pub Bongsor College’s journey has been quite contrasting to that of Kokrajhar Govt. College. They stamped their authority in the high-scoring league fixtures, but couldn’t break the deadlock in Quarters and Semis, and both the matches went into penalties. They held their nerves eventually on both the occasions to emerge victorious.

In such competitions, where the competing teams are so well-matched, it is extremely difficult to decide the favourites. Every team will be hungry for goals and glory, every team will come out to win. This day will surely be memorable for Guwahati.
