RFYS Welcomes 10 New Cities

Reliance Foundation Youth Sports’ inception in 2016 brought in a whole new prospect of a bright sporting future for the nation. Introduction of football tournament in RFYS 2016 in eight cities was just a start. RFYS extended the platform to 17 cities in 2017 and introduced Athletics tournament in eight cities. In two years, RFYS has reached out to 4 million students, helping them compete at the zonal and national level, in both football and athletics. In 2017, more than 4300 institutes registered for RFYS, with more than 70,000 athletes competing in athletic and football events across the country. This year, RFYS is returning to eight additional cities with the Football tournament and six additional cities with Athletics tournament.

In addition to 17 cities where RFYS football championships were organized last year, this year’s tournament will also be held in Bhubaneshwar, Coimbatore, Dehradun, Indore, Jammu, Kolhapur, Lucknow and Ludhiana. Besides these tier-two cities, the tournament will also be covering the interiors of Kerala, Meghalaya and Mizoram.

Kozhikode – Thrissur, Palakkad, Mannarkad, Nilambur, Tirur, Sulthanbattery, Vadakara, Thalassery, Kannur, Kasargod.

Kochi – Anchal, Kollam, Kottayam, Pathanamtitta, Peerumade, Thodupuzha, Muvattupuzha, Attingal, Trivandrum.

Guwahati – Changsair, Kokrajhar, Tangla.

Aizawl – Lunglai.

Shillong – Jowai, Ri bhoi, Khliehriat.

Minerva Public School (Chandigarh), Umthli Senior Secondary School (Shillong), The Unique Model Academy (Imphal) and Zakir Hussain College (Delhi) were the institutes who bossed the tournament in 2017. However, with inclusion of these new cities, it will be interesting to see which of the new institutes will pose a serious challenge to the current champions.

RFYS Athletics tournament was launched in 2017 in Bangalore, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Kozhikode and Mumbai.  The tournament turned out to be an immense success as hundreds of Athletes participated in the various track and field events and the event witnessed a momentous end to the tournament in Mumbai. This season promises to be even better as new cities – Bhubaneswar, Guwahati, Lucknow, Ludhiana, Rohtak and Vadodara –have been added.

After two successful seasons, RFYS 2018-19 is around the corner and the registration for the same will begin very shortly. It’s a great opportunity for the students from these new cities who will get a chance to compete with India’s best young talent and who knows, we will find a new champion.
