Punjab’s industrial powerhouse city, famously known as India’s Manchester, Ludhiana, must be proud of its young generation looking at the way they have performed in the RFYS Football City Championship so far. After several weeks of intense footballing action, we’ve come down to the time when there will only be one champion in each category among many talented teams from this city. The city has witnessed footballing action to a different level, from goals galore to tightly contested matches, Ludhiana has been host to kinds of fixtures in the tournament.

Among the School Girls, Jesus Sacred Heart School sailed through the early stages of the tournament with convincing victories. The first real competition they faced was in their Semi-Final against International Public School. On the other hand, the other finalist, Shri Guru Harkrishan Public Sr. Sec. School, set a record for the most number of goals scored in a single match, after defeating Preach Convent International School by a margin of 28-0 in the Semi-Final. Navjot Kaur netted a whopping 11 goals in the match to become the highest scorer so far in her category. A stern defence versus a formidable attack will be a treat to the eyes on the big day, and the final showdown is expected to be fascinating and unpredictable, even though both teams have had contrasting results in the Semis.

The two finalists of Ludhiana from the College Boys category will be ready to pull up their socks and put up a show as Shri Ram College will get ready to face Guru Hargobind Khalsa College. Shri Ram College haven’t lost a single match in the tournament so far. While their fast-paced attacking prowess has been on display throughout the tournament already, their defence also counts as one of their strengths. They held the fort firmly in the Semi-Final when they faced stern opponents Guru Teg Bahadur Institute and managed to emerge victorious in the penalties. Guru Hargobind Khalsa College will be wary of their form and will make sure they put on a show when both teams battle it out in the finals.

Coming to the Senior Boys category, Doaba Public School have enjoyed a purple patch with five straight wins. Ritik Rana, their highest goalscorer, has scored 11 goals from 4 matches. If any team can put an end to their stunning form, it is Green Grove Public School, who have been clinical with their defence so far. Both their matches, QF and SF, went down the wire but in both the occasions, Green Grove Public School kept their cool and emerged victorious.

In the Junior Boys Category, Dawindra International Public School have been in phenomenal form, having scored 62 goals in 6 matches so far at an average of 10.34 goals per match. Moreover, they have not conceded a single goal. Undoubtedly, they are the team with the best record on paper, but things tend to turn around in a matter of minutes during such clashes and that is what the boys from Peace Public School will be looking to do. They were clinical in the league stages but had to put in the hard yards in the quarterfinal and semifinal, as both the games went down to the penalties and both the times, they emerged victorious.

It will be another interesting City Championship Finals to watch and all the eyes will be glued on these youngsters of Ludhiana. All the games will be telecasted live on the Facebook page of RFYS and on rfyouthsports.com.
