Reliance Foundation Sports athletes delivered a memorable campaign at the inaugural Asian U23 Athletics Championships in Ordos, China, securing seven medals to play a significant role in India's impressive showing on the continental stage. The contingent returned with two GOLD, three SILVER and two BRONZE medals, highlighting the strength of India's next generation of track and field talent.
Leading the charge was Anand Singh, who scripted history by becoming India's first individual GOLD medallist at the inaugural Asian U23 Athletics Championships. Entering the competition with a personal best of 77.68m, the Reliance Foundation javelin thrower delivered the performance of his career, bettering his previous personal best with three throws beyond 77.68m before producing a sensational 80.57m effort on his sixth and final attempt. The throw, his first ever beyond the coveted 80 metre mark in official competition, improved his personal best by 2.89m and secured the continental title in style.
Astik Pradhan enjoyed a stellar championship, helping India secure GOLD in the mixed 4x400m relay as the team clocked a personal best of 3:18.64s to become the inaugural Asian U23 champions. He followed it up with a SILVER medal in the men's 4x400m relay, where the Indian quartet clocked another personal best of 3:04.24s to finish second, making Astik one of Reliance Foundation's double medallists at the championships.
Distance runner Shivaji P. Madappagoudra emerged as one of India's standout performers, claiming SILVER medals in both the 5,000m and 10,000m. Shivaji first finished second in the 5,000m with a time of 14:08.19 before returning to the track to add another SILVER in the longer distance, showcasing remarkable endurance and consistency across both events.
Reliance Foundation athletes also impressed in the field and sprint events. Bhartpreet Singh earned BRONZE in the men's discus throw with a best effort of 52.91m, while Abhay Singh sprinted to BRONZE in the men's 200m, clocking 20.96s to round off another strong performance for the contingent.
India concluded the inaugural Asian U23 Athletics Championships with an impressive 16 medals, comprising three GOLD, four SILVER and nine BRONZE. Reliance Foundation athletes contributed seven of India's 16 medals, reflecting the depth of talent emerging through the high performance programme. Their performances across throws, relays, middle and long distance events, and sprints reinforce the impact of sustained athlete development in preparing India's young stars to excel on the international stage.
