Adille Sumariwalla Visits the Reliance Foundation Odisha Athletics HPC

President of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI), Mr. Adille Sumariwalla took a tour of the project site of India’s first-ever indoor athletics stadium, which is being constructed on the Kalinga Stadium premises, home of the Reliance Foundation Odisha Athletics HPC.

President of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI), Mr. Adille Sumariwalla took a tour of the project site of India’s first-ever indoor athletics stadium, which is being constructed on the Kalinga Stadium premises, home of the Reliance Foundation Odisha Athletics HPC.

Having represented India in the 1980 Moscow Olympics and several other international competitions, he shared his expertise and experience to conduct an assessment of the HPC and the worksite of the first Indoor Athletics Stadium.

Mr. Sumariwalla was joined by Sports Secretary, R Vineel Krishna and various other dignitaries from the Department of Sports and Youth Services as they interacted with the athletes of the Reliance Foundation Odisha Athletics HPC.

Our partnership with RF is one of common vision.” said the Sports Secretary R Vineel Krishna. “To take the sport of Athletics to a greater level and this Indoor Athletic Centre will play a key role towards realizing our collective dream of winning more medals in Athletics for the country.

The Reliance Foundation Odisha Athletics HPC has already produced impressive talents such as Amlan Borgohan who won Gold in 200m and silver in 100m, with personal best timings of 20.75 secs and seconds respectively at the Open Nationals in Warangal last year, Swadhin Kumar Majhi, from Angul, recorded a Personal Best of 2.08 meters to win a bronze medal at the All India Inter-University Athletics Championship for Men in Mangalore earlier in the year. Furthermore, the 16-year-old Sabita Toppo won gold in the U-16 girls' Long Jump and silver in the U-16 girls' 80m hurdles at the Junior Nationals in Guwahati last year.

While interacting with the athletes, he encouraged the HPC athletes to make the most of the world-class infrastructure's facilities and opportunities.

Recently, the Chief Minister of Odisha, Shri Naveen Patnaik also visited the Kalinga Stadium to inspect the progress of the ongoing construction of the indoor training facility.
