City Finals Day 15: City Champions of Goa

The first match of the day was between Damodar Higher Secondary School, Gudi Paroda, Quequm and FR Agnel, Higher Secondary School, Pilar, Goa in the Senior Boys Division.

Fr Agnel scored in the 14th and 27th minutes with strikes from Tristan Fernandes and Deryl Souza respectively. Damodar’s Foley Dias fired back with a goal just two minutes later to bring his team within one goal. But it was not to be, what came next was an offensive barrage from Fr Agnel that took the game completely out of Damodar’s hands. Rayan Menezes scored to make it 3-1 in the 51st minute. Trijoy Lucas scored two goals in quick succession to make it 5-1 for Fr Agnel. Ryan Menezes scored his second goal in the 70th minute. The final goal of the match, to put Fr Agnel in the lead by six goals, was scored by Nash Fernandes in the 76th minute. When the smoke cleared Fr Agnel had won the game 7-1 and the city championship trophy was in their hands.

The second match of the day, in the Sub-Junior Boys, was between Progress High School and St. Joseph’s Educational Institute, Chandor. There was no action in the first half as both teams fought for offensive dominance without any success. Sendy Warpu Mengte scored the first goal for Progress in the 45th minute. He struck again in the 54th minute. The score at the final whistle was 2-0 in favor of Progress High School.

The third fixture on the docket for goa was in the Junior Boys Division. It was between Government High School, Keri and Regina Martyrum High School. Regina began the fireworks with goals in the 8th and 10th minutes by Ismail Mannasaheb and Brighton Caeser Fernades respectively. Ismail scored again just minutes later to bring the score to 3-0 at the half. He got his hat trick in the 42nd minute, with his teammate scoring just a minute later to make the score 5-0. Ismail scored his fourth goal of the match in the 52nd minute, followed by a Noel Anthony Fernandes goal to finish the game in the 57th minute. The final score was 7-0 with Regina Martyrum hoisting the city championship trophy.

The fourth game of the day was between MES College of Arts & Commerce Zuarinagar and S.S Dempo College of Commerce & Economics in the College Boys Division. The first half was devoid of any action as defense ruled supreme with both offenses failing to find any footing. The first goal of the game was made in the 47th minute by Dempo College’s Aman Ulhas Govekar. Dishu Singh fired back with the equalizer just three minutes later for MES. Amlesh S Shirodkar scored the game-winning goal for Dempo College in the 71st minute. Dempo College was crowned the city champions with a 2-1 win over MES.

The final match in the Goa City Finals Championship was in the School Girls Division between Rosary HSS, Goa and St. Xavier’s Higher Secondary School, Mapusa. Rosary started the show with goals in the 3rd, 6th and 8th minutes by Jossel Mascarenhas, Flani Costa, and Rizella Cia Almeida respectively. Flani Costa added one more goal before the half to put Rosary up 4-0. In the second half, Joizima Fernandes and Flani Costa both scored in the 30th minute. Joizima added one more goal in the 36th minute. At the final whistle, the score was 7-0 in favor of Rosary HSS.
