City Finals Day 14: Kolkata's Newest Champions

The first match was between Nebadhai Balika Vidyalaya and Nayagram Thana Balika Vidyapeeth in the School Girls Division.

 

The first match was between Nebadhai Balika Vidyalaya and Nayagram Thana Balika Vidyapeeth in the School Girls Division. Nayagram scored twice in the first half with goals coming in the 10th and 15th minutes from Mousumi Murmu and Sombari Saren respectively. Mousumi Murmu scored again to start the second half to put her team up 3-0. Rupali Murmu scored the final goal of the game for Nayagram in the 40th minute. Nebadhai could not muster any offense throughout the game. Nayagram won the game 4-0 and they were crowned Kolkata city champions. You can check out the match timeline here.

 

The second match of the day kicked off between Sahudangi Hat P.K. Roy High School and Gustia Kshetranath High School in the Senior Boys Division. Gustia scored the first goal in the 10th minute with a strike from Shyam Thapa. He scored his second goal of the day with a strike in the 38th minute. The first goal of the second half was the hat trick goal for Shyam Thapa, in the 49th minute. Gustia made it to 4-0 with a goal from Rohit Rana in the 54th minute. Rajesh Singh and Alok Roy scored back-to-back goals for Sahudangi in the 65th and 67th minutes to bring them within striking distance of Gustia. Alok Roy scored again just three minutes after his previous goal to make the score 4-3. The match at this point was poised to go either way but Gustia seized the initiative with goals in the 71st and 77th minutes from Satyajit Gayen and Mridul Bose respectively. Alok Roy put up a one-man show for Sahudangi scoring one more goal to get his hat trick in the 78th minute. But it was all for naught as Shyam Thapa scored twice more, bringing his match total to five, en route to an 8-5 Gustia victory.

The third match of the day was a Sub-Junior Boys fixture between Calcutta Vidya Bhaban and Ashoknagar Vidyasagar Bani Bhaban High School. Ashoknagar started the scoring with a goal in the 9th minute by Pradip Mondal. That was all the action in the first half. Ashoknagar made it 2-0 with a sharp header from Shubhankar Das in the 46th minute. Calcutta Vidya Bhaban finally managed to score a goal after repeated efforts with a strike from Om Singh in the 52nd minute. But it was to no avail as Ashoknagar ended the match still in the lead with the score 2-1 and were crowned champions.

The fourth fixture on the Kolkata docket was a Junior Boys matchup between Chowbaga High School and Gangadharpur Vidyamandir. The first half was disappointing for both teams as the score remained tied at 0-0 until the half time whistle. The first goal of the match was scored by Biman Bhuiyan for Gandhadarpur in the 37th minute. He scored again in the 48th minute to put Gangadharpur up 2-0. Chowbaga fought back with a goal from MD Osihim Ali in the 54th minute, but in the closing minutes of the game, they missed the tying shot. Gangadharpur won the match 2-1.

The final match of the day had Charuchandra College facing off against Dr. Bhupendranath Dutta Smriti Mahavidyalaya in the College Boys Division. Bhupendranath took the lead in the 12th minute with a goal from Sukhen Mandi. Both teams had a couple of chances but could not score for the rest of the first half. Charuchandra tied things up with a goal in the 61st minute by Hira Mondal. At the final whistle, the game was tied 1-1 so the match went into a penalty shootout which was won by Bhupendranath 4-1.
