RFYS Football Season 2022-23: City Knockout Championship underway at Jamshedpur, Kolkata

The 2022-23 season kicked off with a knockout format in the Jamshedpur Championship followed by three gripping matchdays in the Kolkata Championship knockout qualifiers.

RFYS Football was #BackOnThePitch at Jamshedpur on Monday, September 26, 2022. Players, coaches, officials, and other stakeholders warmly welcomed the return of the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports football season to the big stage.

The footballing action on an opening day saw four back-to-back matches with enthralling action in the knockouts of the Jamshedpur Championship. St. Roberts High School won 1-0 against Kerala Public School, Jamshedpur in the School Girls category to set the tone for the rest of the day.

Sahil Hembrom headlined Lal Bahadur Shastri Memorial’s 5-0 win over the National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur in the College Boys category, scoring all five goals in the game. Patamda Degree College Jalla beat R.V.S. College of Engineering and Technology 4-3 in a penalty shootout after a goalless draw while Vani Vidya Mandir won the final match of the day 3-1 against Kasidih High School in the Senior Boys category.

 

The focus shifted to the Kolkata Championship on Wednesday as the teams in the College Boys category began their 2022-23 season in the knockout qualifiers. New Alipore College brushed off the challenge of Narasinha Dutt College in the second half and won the game 2-1. Meanwhile, Mahadevananda Mahavidyalaya had mega success against Techno India-Salt Lake, scoring three goals and keeping a clean sheet.

In the third kickoff on September 28, 2022, Acharya Girish Chandra Bose College beat Behala College 1-0 in a closely-fought encounter. Vivekananda College also grafted it out in their game against Kishore Bharati Bhagini Nivedita College to seal a 2-1 victory.

Thursday was another crucial footballing day at Kolkata in the RFYS 2022-23 football season as the knockout qualifiers once again took center stage. Vijaygarh Jyotish Ray College found the back of the net midway through the second half and fended off the challenge of Syamaprasad College in a 1-0 win. Heramba Chandra College showcased its attacking quality, winning 3-0 against Vidyasagar Evening College.

On Friday, September 30, 2022, some of the teams returned to take on the challenge of the next knockout qualifying round. The first three games saw a combined three-goal return, all 1-0 wins, but the final match of the day saw goals galore.

Mahadevananda Mahavidyalaya kept back-to-back clean sheets, following the victory against Vijaygarh Jyotish Ray College. Vivekananda College ended Asutosh College’s run in the Kolkata Championship. Acharya Girish Chandra Bose College also showed defensive resilience in their second game, beating Heramba Chandra College.

 

New Alipore College provided an emphatic finish to the week’s action on the return of the RFYS football season. In the final knockout qualifier on Friday, they sealed a 13-0 victory against Camellia Institute of Technology, the highest victory margin so far in the 2022-23 season.
