RFYS Football Season 2022-23: Delhi, Dehradun, and Jamshedpur in the middle of an Intense footballing action

The non-stop footballing action continued across multiple centers in India in the 2022-23 City Championships with 57 matches played from October 13 to October 15.

RFYS Football was #BackOnThePitch for the first time in Delhi on October 13, 2022, for the 2022-23 season, following an exciting start in Jamshedpur and Kolkata. Shillong was the other center where the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports football season kicked off on Thursday.

At Delhi on Matchday 1, Moti Lal Nehru College won 5-2, while Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education and Sports Sciences sealed a victory in the College Boys category. Modern School registered a handsome 5-0 success in the Senior Boys category while triumphing on penalties in the Sub Junior Boys category.

Only two matches, both in the Junior Boys category, were played on October 13 in the Shillong Championship. Nongkrem Presbyterian Secondary School brought their shooting boots onto the pitch, smashing eight goals in a handsome victory against Kamala Nehru Secondary School. In the other game, Iewrynghep Secondary School won a close game by one goal.

The RFYS 2022-23 football season traveled to Dehradun, Hyderabad, and Sonipat to begin the City Championships on October 14 along with Matchday 2 at Chennai, Shillong, and Delhi. The high intensity of the games in these centers made it worth the wait.

All three games at Dehradun were played in the College Boys category. DBS (PG) College thrashed Alpine Group of Institutes 7-0, while Siri Guru Ram Rai University’s 9-0 victory over Himalayan Institute of Education & Technology produced another one-sided goal fest. The third game also featured a clean sheet for the winning team, courtesy of Jaspal Rana Institute of Education and Technology scoring two goals to beat D.D. College.

 

Kendriya Vidyalaya I’s 9-0 success against Wesley Boys Junior College in the Senior Boys category headlined the Matchday 1 action in Hyderabad. St. Mary’s Centenary Degree College and St. Mary’s Junior College, both scored eight goals in their respective wins while the other five games were more closely-fought encounters.

Institute of Aeronautical Engineering, Kendriya Vidyalaya, CVR College of Engineering, Delhi Public School, and Hyderabad Institute of Technology and Management came away with wins in their respective season openers.

It was a day of clean sheets in Sonipat as five of the six games on Matchday 1 ended with the winning team not conceding a goal. St. Joseph's International School's flurry of goals resulted in a 6-0 win in the School Girls category, while Holy Angel School was also rampant, netting five goals against Army Public School in the Sub Junior Boys category. St. Sofia School, Siddhivinayak Global School, and Fateh Singh Memorial Public School also collected all available points.

In Chennai on Matchday 2, Bhaktavatsalam Vidyashram, Govt. Madarasa I Higher Secondary School and Kendriya Vidyalaya notched up important wins in the knockouts. Birla Vidya Niketan, Modern School, St Mary's School, and Aryabhatta College progressed through to the next round in Delhi on October 14. Deni Linda Persara Secondary School and Area Laitkyntoit Secondary School registered wins in the two Shillong Championship games.

Hyderabad, Delhi, Sonipat, Shillong, and Jamshedpur were at the heart of the action on October 15.

Jamshedpur Co-Operative College and Inter College came through in their matches along with wins via penalty shootouts for Abdul Bari Memorial College and A.I.W.C. Academy of Excellence in their respective categories in the Jamshedpur Championship.

St. Andrews College and Pace Junior College continued the high goal-scoring trend in Hyderabad, both notching eight goals in their success on Matchday 2. Malla Reddy Engineering College’s emphatic victory headlined the results in the other six matches in the Hyderabad Championship.

Meanwhile, it was a successful Saturday in Sonipat for Govt. Senior Secondary School Gangwa, Thakurdas Bhargava Senior Secondary School, SDM High School, and Holy Angel School on Matchday 2.

Iewrynghep Secondary School won another tight encounter 2-0 as Kamala Nehru School’s 3-1 win wrapped up Matchday 3 in Shillong. Dyal Singh College and Hindu College were the top-performing teams on Matchday 3 in Delhi on October 16 in the Round 1 games.
