The contest truly heated up as we entered Day 7 of the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports (RFYS) National Championships, with the semi-finals getting started. These were the first knockout games of the tournament and a total of four matches were played at the Reliance Corporate Park, Mumbai.

Both the Junior and the Senior Boys took the field under perfect conditions for a game of football with a place in the finals up for grabs. You can check out the entire list of results here.

 

There were a total of 12 goals scored in the semi-finals with most matches ending in close results. H. Elias Memorial School, Shillong set the ball rolling in the Junior Boys category with a closely-contested 2-1 win over ASC Boys Sports School, Bengaluru. The boys from Bengaluru couldn’t hold on to the early lead they got in the very first minute of the game.

 

Govt. Oriental HS, Kozhikode sealed the other spot in the finals with a 2-0 win over Maharana Pratap Sports College, Dehradun. It was a hard-fought win with goals coming in either half for the winning team.

The Senior Boys then provided some fireworks as Shillong College HSE, thumped four goals past Mamta Modern SSC, Delhi while refusing to let in goals at the other end. The team from Shillong stormed into the Finals with a dominating 4-0 win.

 

Malabar Special Police HSS, Kozhikode then knocked out ASC Boys Sports School, Bengaluru in the other semi-final by a narrow 2-1 margin. Muhammed Ajsal grabbed a 92nd-minute winner in the dying moments of the game to secure passage to the Finals.

With a spot in the finals secured, the teams left the field to recharge their batteries and return for what promised to be a pulsating climax to the tournament.
