The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup will be held in India in 2020. To set the expectations straight, preparations for the mega event are just about to begin.  The RFYS Football Scouting Camp for the U-17 Girl’s National Team conducted by AIFF is all set to commence on June 24. In what will be a massive event in the history of Indian football, more than 250 of the nation’s top RFYS female football players have been called up across 6 zonal camps. The AIFF scouts shall keep a close eye on the athletes, who were among the best talents selected from the RFYS Football Tournament last season. RFYS will be organizing the zonal scouting camps, in a joint bid to discover the top footballers from the country who will ply their trade in the showpiece FIFA event.

The RFYS Scouting Camp will be first held in Cuttack on Monday, 24th June. The probables, not only from Cuttack but also from the neighbouring eastern cities of Kolkata and Jamshedpur, have been invited to prove themselves worthy for the national team call up.

The camp will then continue its search through the rest of the country. The other destinations of the camp include Shillong and Bengaluru, both scheduled on June 26. It will also be hosted in Coimbatore and Delhi, on the 28th and 29th of June respectively. The scouting camp shall have its last stop in the first week of July where they will look to unearth potential champions from the western zones of India including cities such as Mumbai and Pune.

This Scouting Camp is among the growing list of contributions by RFYS to promote and support the growth of women’s football in India. Since its inception in 2016, RFYS has made rapid strides to become a vital resource for discovering key talents with its ever-expanding, far and wide reach.

Perhaps the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup can be a watershed moment and prove to be the much-needed push to change the landscape of women’s football in India. On winning the bid to host the event, the President of AIFF Praful Patel stated, “The tournament will be massive as this time it will also galvanize the girls of the country, making it more popular.” (source: https://the-aiff.com/news-center-details.htm?id=9514)
