The Reliance Foundation Youth Sports football tournament approaches the mega finale on the 7th of January, with four final matches in different categories at the National Championships. The final and highly awaited game of the day will witness a showdown between Nirmala College of Kochi and Charuchandra College of Kolkata at the Cooperage ground in Colaba. The two teams have made it this far with some inspiring performances from their players, and two particular players have stood out in the competition.
Md. Farid (Charuchandra College)
Mohammed Farid has been in great touch for his team in the tournament. The dynamic player has scored thrice in his last four games. The youngster has been all over the park and his energy and work rate have helped his team’s cause to a large extent. He is quick, agile, is deft with his touches and finishes clinically. Farid harbors a dream of representing his country, and this would be the perfect stepping stone to showcase his talent. His performance will be a crucial factor in defining the outcome of this tie. He is in contention for the Golden Ball award, and if his team win the Championship, he will certainly hope he has done enough to earn the award.
Jithin M (Nirmala College)
Jithin has been a key player for his team in this tournament. The pacey footballer has scored eight times in his last four appearances, which includes a hat-trick against Arya Vidyapeeth College, Guwahati. He has been prolific in scoring, and alongside Sachin Sivan, their free-flowing goals are a major factor behind his team reaching as far as the finals. His is lightning fast, can capitalize on any loose balls and shows great individual skills as well. Jithin’s performances have him leading the Golden Boot award table in the category, and the award will sweeten the victory if Nirmala cross the final hurdle.
