Reliance Foundation Youth Sports Football Season Begins In The West Zone Amidst A Flurry Of Goals

As the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports (RFYS) football season gets underway in Mumbai and Goa, it marks the official start of the season across all zones. While the action had already begun in the North-East, South, North & East zones, it marked the beginning of the season in the West Zone.

The action took place at Dhuler Football Stadium in North Goa, while the South Goa fixtures took place at Don Bosco Football Ground.

On October 3, Progress High School, Goa put on a footballing clinic to defeat St. Theresa High School, Candolim in a boys U-15 knockout fixture. However, in the boys U-17 category, St. Theresa High School came out victorious against St. Michael’s Convent High School, Vagator. St. Theresa hit the back of the net seven times without any response.

On October 4, St. Thomas Higher Secondary School, Aldona and Purshottom Walawalkar Higher Secondary School, Khorllim locked horns in an evenly contested 1-1 draw in a boys U-19 knockout fixture. A suspenseful penalty shoot-out followed with Purshottom Walawalkar claiming the tie 5-3.

In another fixture in the same category, F.R. Angel Higher Secondary School, Pilar bested Vidyaprobhodini Higher Secondary School 6-1, in a one-sided affair.

Moving on to the October 5 leg of games, St. Britto High School emerged triumphant against Poira High School by a score of 5-0, in a boys U-15 knockout clash.

The girls U-19 campaign began on October 7, with St. Thomas Higher Secondary School, Aldona getting the better of F.R. Angel Higher Secondary School, Pilar, in a comfortable 2-0 win.

In the boys U-19 category on October 9, Rosary Higher Secondary School, Navelim trounced V.R.D.A.S. Gauncar Higher Secondary School in a dominant 7-0 victory, while Mount Mary Higher Secondary School, Chinchim beat Guardian Angel Higher Secondary School 2-0.

Coming to the Mumbai set of fixtures, Parle Tilak Vidyalaya put up an impressive performance to defeat Ryan International School, Chembur 6-0 in a boys U-15 fixture on October 3.

In a boys U-17 match on the same day, Parle Tilak Vidyalaya were on the receiving end of a 6-0 drubbing against Mahila Samiti.

On October 4, Smt. MMK College and R.D. National College battled it out in an intense Bandra derby fixture in the boys U-19 category. MMK College prevailed 4-1 in a straightforward win over their old rivals.

Meanwhile, a boys U-21 clash on October 6 between Bunts Sangha S.M. Shetty and Wilson College, made for a captivating watch. In a match that could have gone either way, S.M. Shetty eventually emerged victorious with the scoreline reading 4-3. Elsewhere, Guru Nanak School overcame IRA Global School 1-0 in a hard-fought contest.
