Shillong City Champions crowned on eventful Friday!

After hosting the Championships in the city of Aizawl successfully, RFYS arrived in the city of Shillong for yet another Championship Final.

The city of Shillong hosted the Championship Finals in all the four categories. The day started off with the Junior Boys finals where OM Roy Memorial Higher Secondary School and St. Anthony’s Higher Secondary School competed in the beautiful Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. It was a perfect start for OM Roy Memorial Higher Secondary School as Knerktilang Buam got on the score sheet as early as the third minute to give his team a 1-0 lead. The rest of the first half was a quiet affair as it ended 1-0. The second half saw plenty of action as both sides upped the ante. After a rigorous thirty minutes, OM Roy Memorial finished off the game in the 60th minute and sealed the title, with Knerktilang finding the back of the net again. He was adjudged Player of the Math for his match-winning brace.

It was always a tricky affair between the School Girls of Umthli Secondary School and Christian Union College Higher Secondary School as both teams were in red-hot form coming into the final. But Umthli Secondary School got the lead in the first minute of the game, with striker Nisilia Majaw’s strike. They went on a goal-scoring rampage after that, putting another nine goals past their opponents before the break. Nisilia Majaw, meanwhile, completed her double hat-trick in just under 27 minutes. Umthli Secondary School bettered their first-half performance by netting 11 goals past their opponents and won the game by a mammoth margin of 21-0. With a tally of ten goals in the final, Nisilia Majaw was awarded the Player of the Match as Umthli Secondary School were the School Girls Champions of Shillong.

In the Senior Boys game, Shillong College Higher Secondary School found themselves trailing 2-0 to St. Anthony’s Higher Secondary School 80 minutes into the game, when they came back and equalized it at the end of full-time. With the game having to be decided by penalties, Shillong College Higher Secondary School missed two consecutive penalties. This cost them the Championship, as St. Anthony’s Higher Secondary School capitalized on their mistake and eventually won the match 6-3.

It was yet another penalty shoot-out thriller in the College Boys final between St. Anthony’s College and Shillong College. St. Anthony’s College opened the scoring in the 57th minute after a goalless first-half was played. Hardy Nongbri got the equalizer for Shillong College in the 83rd minute. After a 1-1 draw at the end of 90 minutes, St. Anthony’s College edged out Shillong College 4-3 in the shootout and were crowned the College Boys Champions of Shillong with a 5-4 win on penalties. Dignitaries present at the finals today included Shillong Lajong FC's Redeem Tlang, and Samuel Lalmuanpuia, coach Bobby Nongbet, Kerala Blasters' Samuel Shadap, and Meghalaya FA president, Mr. Larsing Ming Sawyan, as they presented the Golden Awards to the winners.

Shillong joins Aizawl as the two cities who are part of the North-East zone and will be preparing for the zonal finals earnestly.
