Motilal Nehru College record RFYS’ biggest win yet

The Reliance Foundation Youth Sports (RFYS) football tournament featured 11 matches in Delhi on Tuesday. Matches at Jadavpur University, Kolkata had to be postponed due to heavy rains. The games in Delhi were played at Central Secretariat, Netaji Subhash Sports Complex, Jasola and National Victor Public School.

National Victor Public School hosted the two Junior Boys category games of the day. Ryan International School, Udyog Kunj notched up a 9-1 win against Hillwoods Academy in the first match, while DAV Public School qualified by virtue of a 3-0 walkover in the second.

Eight of the nine matches were played in the College Boys category after Kirori Mal College were awarded a walkover. Zakir Hussain College got the action underway with a 4-0 triumph over IITM (Innovation) with two goals in both halves.

The second match of the day was a record setter as Motilal Nehru College (Evening) registered a crushing 24-0 win against Take One School Mass Communication in what is the biggest win of the tournament so far. Shri Ram College of Commerce and Motilal Nehru College (Morning) continued the trend of big wins in Delhi by brushing aside IITM (Information) and Banarsidas Chandiwala Institute of Professional Studies in 9-0 and 8-0 wins respectively.

Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi also progressed to the next round comfortably thanks to a 3-0 win against Sri Aurobindo College (Evening). They opened the scoring in the 18th minute and scored two more goals in the second half.

St Stephens College emerged victorious as well courtesy of a clinical showing that saw them beat Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Engineering 4-0, with two goals in each half. Hansraj College was the next side to secure a berth in the next round after they saw off a spirited Trinity College of Professional Studies team with a 3-1 victory.

They took the lead in eighth minute but were pegged back by Trinity College of Professional Studies 13 minutes later. However, Hansraj College managed to score again before half-time and then added a third in the second half to seal the win.

Delhi College of Arts and Commerce squared off against Acharya Narendra Dev College in the last match of the day. After a cagey first half that saw both sides fail to break the deadlock, it was eventually Delhi College of Arts and Commerce who went on to score twice in the second to secure a 2-0 victory as well as a spot in the next round.
