Shubham Raje Junior College dismantle Gyan Sarita School and Junior College in the biggest RFYS win

The Reliance Foundation Youth Sports (RFYS) football tournament continued in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai on Friday. The matches in Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai were of the College Boys category, while the games held in Mumbai were of the Senior Boys category.

RR Educational Trust English Medium and Junior College faced Mes Crescent English High School and Junior College in Mumbai’s opening match of the day in Palava Football Stadium, Dombivli. It turned out to be an easy game for RR Educational Trust English Medium and Junior College, who scored five goals in each half to seal a 10-0 win.

The next match in Dombivli saw Shubham Raje Junior College canter to an effortless 26-0 win against Gyan Sarita School and Junior College. Shubham Raje Junior College scored a dozen times in the first half and 14 times in the second.

Saraswathi Education Society High School and Junior College defeated Pragati College 8-1 in the last match of the day in Mumbai. They raced into a 4-0 lead by the 18th minute but conceded a penalty, which Pragati College converted to make it 4-1 at half-time. However, four more goals in the second period by Saraswathi Education Society High School helped them to a comfortable victory.

Bhawanipore Education Society College took on Prasanta Chandra Mahalanabis Mahavidyalaya in the first match of the day at Jadavpur University ground, Kolkata. The Group B encounter ended all square at 1-1 after Prasanta Chandra Mahalanabis Mahavidyalaya equalised late in the second half to cancel out Bhawanipore Education Society College’s first-half opener.

Kolkata’s second match saw Netaji Nagar Day College keep their perfect record in Group C intact by beating Umesh Chandra College (Day) 2-1 in a hard fought College Boys category game at Jadavpur University ground.

After a goalless first half, Netaji Nagar took the lead through Shoubik Roy in the 63rd minute of the game. Saiket Das struck to make it 2-0 for them 15 minutes later. Sourav Bera did pull one back for Umesh Chandra College with a minute left in regulation time but it came too late in the day as they ended up losing the encounter 2-1. RK Yadav of Netaji Nagar was named Player of the Match for his two assists in the game.

The games in Delhi were held at Central Secretariat and Netaji Subhash Sports Complex, Jasola. Zakir Husain Delhi College got the action underway in the capital city with a 3-1 win over Delhi Technological University.

Shivaji College registered a thumping 13-0 victory over IILM College of Engineering and Technology in the second match of the day in Delhi. They hit the back of the net seven times in the first half and a further six times in the second period. Rahul Gulia scored four goals for Shivaji College and was handed the Player-of-the-Match award for his fine display.

Dyal Singh College and Indian Institute of Technology Delhi also registered comfortable wins over Rajdhani College and Deshbandhu College respectively. Both sides produced clinical showings to register 4-1 wins.

PGDAV College too recorded a 2-0 win over Ram Lal Anand College in the final match of the day in Delhi, while Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education and Sports and Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar College played out Delhi’s only draw of the day in an entertaining game that ended 3-3.

The games in Chennai took place in Loyola College ground with the opening match of the day pitting Sri Ramachandra University against Alpha Arts and Science College. Sri Ramachandra University were always in charge of this game as they cruised to a 3-0 win with two goals in the first half and one in the second.

The second match in Chennai saw Patrician College of Arts and Science clinch a 3-1 victory over Loyola-Icam College of Engineering and Technology. They raced into a 2-0 lead by the 15th minute before an own goal on the stroke of half-time made it 2-1 at the break. However, a Patrician College of Arts and Science third 13 minutes into the second period put the result beyond all dispute.

New College sealed a comfortable 6-0 win over St. Louis College at Loyola College ground in Chennai’s penultimate match of the day. They opened the scoring in the very first minute of the game and added another before the break to go in at half-time with a 2-0 lead. Four more goals in what was an entertaining second half made it an easy 6-0 triumph for New College.

The final match in Chennai was another one-sided game that ended 6-0. Five goals in the first half and another in the second handed Guru Nanak College handed them an easy win over Agni College of Technology.
