Tejas Shirse continues breathtaking start to 2025 by smashing national record again

Reliance Foundation athlete Tejas Shirse continued his amazing start to 2025 by smashing the men’s indoor 60m hurdles record for the second time just in this year by clocking a time of 7.64s at the Elite Indoor Track Miramas Meeting in Miramas, France on Friday.

Tejas finished 2nd in the event and had advanced to the final after clocking a time of 7.70s previously in the heats. The previous national record of 7.65s also stood in Tejas’ name, which he had set in his first competition of this year.

Tejas, who will be in action at the National Games as well, is also the national record holder in the men’s 110m hurdles event and has been on a Europe exposure trip to prepare for the upcoming season.

Speaking about Tejas’ fine start to the season, James Hillier, Athletics Director at Reliance Foundation, said, “This is a very good result for Tejas. The field was very high quality and full of indoor specialists. Tejas managed to beat multiple European indoor championships medalists, who are very renowned hurdlers. This result will be a huge boost to his confidence. What stood out for me was how he focused after not having the best training session in the lead up. I had a chat with him and asked him to focus on himself and not worry about the competitors, so he had to dig really deep and go against his natural instincts. The national record is the cherry on the top and he’s very delighted as this is his third national record now and second in little over a week."

Fellow Reliance Foundation athlete Jyothi Yarraji also continued her good start to the season in a very strong field and finished fifth in the final of the women’s 60m hurdles event by finishing in a time of 8.10s, just shy of the national record. The Elite Indoor Track Miramas Meeting is a Silver level meet on the World Athletics Indoor Tour and saw a very strong field of competitors.

Tejas’ achievement was even more impressive as he beat a field that comprised a two-time European Indoor Champion, a European outdoor champion and a three-time world indoor silver medallist.
