RF Odisha HPC & RF athletes continue to shine in Europe competitions

The European tour turned out to be a staggering success for RF athletes, who earned medals clubbed with invaluable experience in this international campaign.

The European tour turned out to be a staggering success for RF athletes, who earned medals clubbed with invaluable experience in this international campaign.

With all eyes on the year's most awaited competitions like the World University Games and Asian Games, seven Reliance Foundation athletes ramped up preparations by training with multiple international training groups and competing at international levels during the tour.

Records, medals, and more

A remarkable performance by Jyothi Yarraji in the 100m hurdles at the 'Cyprus International Athletic Meet' propelled her to set a national record as she won the gold medal within 13.23 seconds. Furthermore, the 22-year-old improved on his previous performance by breaking the NR again at the Loughborough International Competition, clocking 13.11 seconds.

Jyothi continued her determination at the Harry Schulting Games, Vught to mark a hat-trick of broken national records as she finished with a timing of 13.04 seconds. To conclude her Europe competitions, she sealed the silver in the Oordegem, Belgium competition with a timing of 13.19 seconds.

RF Odisha HPC athlete Graceson Jeeva finished with a perfect score after winning all three races in the 110m hurdles.

Starting at the Chelmsford Open Meeting, Graceson reached the finish line within 14.57 seconds and continued his impressive display at the Loughborough International Competition with another gold and storming to a massive personal best of 13.91 seconds.

Graceson finished with a 3rd gold medal in his final race at the Charlie Kelly Speed Series, Coventry, finishing with a timing of 14.08 seconds.

110M hurdles runner Siddhanth Thingalya secured his first medal in the tour at the Loughborough International Competition with a timing of 13.97 seconds. He repeated this feat to win his second medal at the Harry Schulting Games, Vught, clocking 14.09 seconds.

200m national record holder Amlan Borgohain earned a bronze medal in the 200m dash event, finishing with a recorded timing of 21.32 seconds in the Cyprus International Athletics Meet.

After securing the 4th spot in the BMC Birmingham Uni Grand Prix, RF Athlete Mohammed Afsal won 800m gold in the Watford BMC Race. Furthermore, Afsal secured his 2nd medal in the European competition after grabbing the gold in the Belfast International Competition, finishing the 800M event with a timing of 1:48.24.

RF Athlete Sawan Barwal earned himself the gold medal in the Belfast International Competition with a recorded timing of 1:48.24 minutes in the 800M event. Sawan grabbed the 4th position in the BMC Birmingham Uni Grand Prix after clocking 13:5.68 minutes in the 5000M event. He continued his solid display after earning the 6th position in the 1500M event in the Watford BMC Race with a timing of 3:49.57 minutes.

The HPC is a joint effort of the Odisha government and the Reliance Foundation. The Centre opened in 2019 and now has more than 50 athletes training there.

Last year, the Athletics Elite Camp - Endurance was held with Odisha Government's 'Department of Sports and Youth Services'. The camp, which took place in Ooty and Coonoor, gave 11 Elite Athletes the chance to step up their game!
