Goa Finds Its Sr. Girls and Jr. Boys Finalists

Goa offered four exciting Semi Final games today, that were played at the Duller Football Stadium. Jr. Boys and Sr. Girls battled it out in the middle to find a spot in the city finals in their respective category. Sr. Girls from Carmel Higher Secondary School and St. Xavier’s Higher Secondary School entered the field amidst cheering supporters in the stands. Both teams tried hard to go one up against each other early on however, it was Carmel Higher Secondary School’s 24th-minute goal that helped them gain the lead before the half-time break. St. Xavier’s Higher Secondary School tried their level best to match their opponents but Carmel Higher Secondary School defended well to maintain their lead till full time, eventually winning the game 1-0.

The second Semi Final in the Sr. Girls category was more eventful than the first as three goals were scored in the game. Unlike the first match, this one was one-sided as all three goals were scored by Rosary Higher Secondary School. Their opponents, Our Lady of the Rosary Higher Secondary School could not score even once and lost the game 3-0.

After the Sr. Girls finalists were decided, it was time for Jr. Boys to go head to head. Junior Boys from Our Lady Mother of the Poor High School and Marina English High School played out a goalless first half. Both sides came out with intent in the second half however, it was Marina English High School that executed their plans better than their opposition. They scored immediately in the second half and ensured to remain ahead of Our Lady Mother of the Poor High School till full time, winning the game 1-0.

The last Semi Final turned out to be most exciting of them all as it was decided via a penalty shootout. The game began with a bang as Saviour of the World High School scored in the first minute of the game. Their opponents, Our Lady of Perpetual Succour High School responded before the half time break by scoring in the 26th minute. Both teams went into the break with a 1-1 scoreline. The second half saw both teams cancel each other out and the winner had to be decided via spot kicks. Our Lady of Perpetual Succour High School managed to hold their nerve in the tense penalty shootout to win 1(5)-1(4).

In Delhi, it was time for the Quarter Finals. These games were played at Siri Fort Sports Complex and were won by Zakir Husain Delhi College, Amity University and Sharda University. Kolkata hosted two qualifying games at the Tarun Sangha – Baghajatin venue. The Chetla Boys High School vs Sodepur Sreemanta Vidyapith Junior Boys game was a high scoring one as ten goals were scored in the match. Chetla Boys High School scored the bulk of those goals as they won their encounter 8-2. Sr. Boys from Chetla Boys High School scored one goal more than their Jr. Boys to win 9-0 against Sodepur Sreemanta Vidyapith.

Today’s games in Guwahati were won by Kaziranga English Academy, Don Bosco School, Montfort School (Jr. Boys), Montfort School (Sr. Boys) and Sonapur College whereas the Dispur College vs Province College match ended 1-1. St. Francis D'Assisi Jr. College (Borivali), Fr. Agnel Multipurpose School and Junior College, Don Bosco (Nerul), HR College Of Commerce & Economics, Thakur College of Science and Commerce, and Swami Vivekanand Junior College emerged victorious in Mumbai.
