The action intensifies in the RFYS tournament with two hat-tricks in the same game

The Reliance Foundation Youth Sports football tournament were scheduled to feature 10 games on Sunday with six of them taking place in Mumbai and four in Kolkata. The matches in Mumbai took place in St. Francis Ground, Borivali, while the matches in Kolkata were held at Jadavpur University.
All four matches in Kolkata were in the College boys category with the first game taking place between Maharaja Srischandra College and Aliah University. It was an evenly contested match between the two sides but neither side managed to break the deadlock in normal time, taking the game into penalties. Fortunes swayed in the shootout but eventually it was Maharaja Srischandra College who edged out Aliah University 4-3 on penalties.
The second match of the day in Kolkata was a thrilling 4-3 win for Indian Maritime University (IMU), Kolkata Campus over Polba Mahavidyalaya. It was Polba Mahavidyalaya who took the lead in the first half but three goals from IMU in the opening 15 minutes of the second period turned the game on its head. Polba Mahavidyalaya struck back to make it 3-2 only for IMU to score another within 60 seconds of the restart to restore their two goal advantage. Polba Mahavidyalaya did pull one back towards the end of the game but it was not enough to prevent IMU from progressing to the next round.
Jadavpur’s third game of the day was another close encounter between Charuchandra College and New Alipore College. After a goalless first half, it was Charuchandra College who found the all-important winner nine minutes from full-time to secure a 1-0 win. The last match of the day, however, bucked the trend of close encounters throughout the day.

In what was the highest scoring game of the day across both cities, Netaji Nagar Day College beat Govt College of Engineering and Ceramic by 13 unanswered goals. They scored four goals in the first half, added nine in the second and had two hat-trick scorers in the side by the end of the game.
Four out of the six matches in Mumbai were in Senior boys category with the other happening in the College boys category. Nirmala Memorial Junior College of Commerce and Science registered a comfortable 4-0 win over Patkar Varde College in the first Senior boys category match of the day in Borivali. They scored three in the first half and added another in the second. The next match of the day in the same category saw Swami Vivekanad International School and Junior College qualify by virtue of a walkover win.
It was another convincing win in the third match of the Senior boys category as Prahladarai Dalmia Lions College of Commerce and Economics opened the scoring in the third minute of the first half against Marol Education Academy's High School and Junior College. They scored three more goals in the second period to qualify for the next round with a 4-0 victory.
The last match of the day in the same category saw D. G. Khetan International School cruise to a controlled 3-0 win over Anandi Bai Damodar Kale College of Commerce. They netted twice in the first half and added one more in the second.
Prakash Degree College beat Ghanshyamdas Saraf College 2-0 in the first College category match of the day in Mumbai. It was a highly competitive encounter that saw Prakash Degree College take a first half lead. Ghanshyamdas Saraf College upped their game in search of an equaliser, however, a second Prakash Degree College goal five minutes from full-time ended their chances of a comeback.
The last match of the day saw Sardar Patel Institute of Technology take on KES Shroff College of Arts and Science in a nail-biting tie. After a fairly even opening 27 minutes, KES Shroff College of Arts and Science took the lead. Sardar Patel Institute of Technology though got their equaliser three minutes later as the sides went in level-pegging at 1-1 for half-time. The second half saw both sides going in search of a winner but it was KES Shroff College of Arts and Science who found it six minutes from full-time to take the lead and make it through to the next round with a 2-1 triumph.
