Arya Gurukul and Pillai College impress in RFYS goal-fests

The Reliance Foundation Youth Sports (RFYS) football tournament saw eight matches take place in Mumbai on Wednesday. Palava Football Stadium in Dombivli, Fr. Agnel Ground, Vashi and St. Xaviers Ground, Parel were the venues for the matches. The day's action featured two Junior Boys category matches and six College Boys category games.
Both the Junior Boys category matches were held at Palava Football Stadium, Dombivli. Guardian School faced Mahila Samiti English Medium in the first game. The opening goal of the match came four minutes before half-time as Guardian School broke the deadlock to go in with a 1-0 advantage at the break. They struck again in the second half to secure a 2-0 win as well as a spot in the next round.
The second match of the Junior Boys category was a lopsided affair that saw Arya Gurukul register a 21-0 win over BR Madhavi English School. They hit the back of the net 13 times in the first half and added eight more goals in the second period.
The first College Boys category match of the day pitted KPB Hinduja College of Commerce against VES Institute of Technology. It was an evenly-contested encounter that saw KPB Hinduja College of Commerce sneak into the next round with a slender 1-0 win.
The second match of the category was another close game between Fr. Agnels CR Institute of Technology and JNAN Vikas Mandal's Mehta Degree College. After a goalless first half, Fr. Agnels CR Institute of Technology took the lead four minutes into the second half and added another 14 minutes later to progress to the next round with a 2-0 victory.
Saraswati College of Engineering beat Changu Kana Thakur Arts, Commerce and Science Senior College by the same score-line in the next game. They scored the opener in the first minute of the game and rippled the back of the net once more three minutes from full-time.

The day's action also featured the dreaded penalty shootout in the game between Kishinchand Chellaram College and Bunt Sangha's SM Shetty College of Science, Commerce and Management Studies. Both sides scored once in the second period, taking the game to penalties. After a nervous shootout, it was eventually Kishinchand Chellaram College that progressed to the next phase courtesy of a 3-2 win on penalties.
ICLES MJ College went up against Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Engineering in the penultimate match of the day. Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Engineering dominated the game after a goal just four minutes into the match settled their nerves. They grew in confidence and scored two more either side of the break to qualify for the next round with a 3-0 win.
Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science ended the day in style by putting on a clinical display that saw them emerge as 14-0 winners over AC Patil College of Engineering. They scored five in the first half and another nine in the second.
