RFYS Season 4 Throwback Thursdays: National Championships, Day 4

It was all happening on day 4 of the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports (RFYS) National Championships, as the girls took to the field and set the ball rolling with a goal-fest in the first match of the day. The four-goal thriller which saw Titaguri HS, Kokrajhar emerge victorious by a 3-1 margin against Government Girls HSS, Namakkal set the tone for the rest of the day.

 

It was all happening on day 4 of the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports (RFYS) National Championships, as the girls took to the field and set the ball rolling with a goal-fest in the first match of the day. The four-goal thriller which saw Titaguri HS, Kokrajhar emerge victorious by a 3-1 margin against Government Girls HSS, Namakkal set the tone for the rest of the day.

 

There were a total of 12 games played on Day 4 and only two of those games ended in draws. The matches were from the School Girls, College Boys and Sub Junior Boys categories and were played at the Fr. Agnel Grounds, Navi Mumbai. The second game of the day saw a total of six goals scored but no winner at the end of 90 minutes as Shillong College and Loyola College, Chennai shared the spoils with a 3-3 draw. Loyola College had a two goal lead over Shillong but failed to hold on to it as Robert Khongjoh scored his second goal in the 93rd minute to level the tie.

 

The next game was another goal-fest which ended in an injury-time winner.Thongbam Lanchenba Singh scored his second goal of the match in injury time to give Govt. Model HS, Chandigarh a 3-2 win over Vels Vidhyashram, Chennai.

 

Narayan Rabha then stepped up to the plate and scored a hat-trick as Betkuchi HS, Guwahati romped home to a 6-0 win over Vrajbhoomi Public School, Ahmedabad. There were again goals galore as the girls from Faith HSS, Ahmedabad hammered five past Gorkha Military Inter College, Dehrahun to win 5-0.

 

In all there were a total of 54 goals scored on Day 4 and to pick a top 5 list from that wasn’t an easy job, but we’ve managed to put together a highlight reel which you absolutely shouldn’t miss.

 

But don’t let the strikers fool you as it wasn’t always smooth sailing for the attacking players. The goalkeepers didn’t make it easy to score but were often let down by some uninspiring defending. However, when they could keep their teams in the game, the keepers pulled off a series of stunning saves which we’ve compiled in our list of top 5 saves for you.

 

There was also some drama on Day 4, as Unique Model Academy saw one player sent off in the 21st minute. However, Annaroy Soibam didn’t let that bother him as he recorded a stunning hat-trick to help Unique Model Academy beat Progress HS, Goa by a 5-1 margin.

 

The highlights don’t always convey the complete story, but the players really gave it their all on Day 4 as the competition really gathered pace with a series of thrilling encounters. A total of 54 goals tells a tale of its own too.
