From eight cities, the competition expanded to 17 cities, ranging from Aizawl in the North-East to Kozhikode in the South. When the discovery was made, the National Championships commenced. Another round of league fixtures took place, before the top two teams in each group went on to play the semi-finals. Eventually, after some great battles showcasing the best of talents were seen on display, our RFYS 2017 finalists were decided for each category.

Come January 6th, these eight finalists will take to the field in the hope of clinching the ultimate glory. In the process of trying to discover the best traits of each side, scoring a huge tally of goals seems to be a standout. Four teams who will surely relate with this trait are the sides of Minerva Public School, Chandigarh in the Junior Boys and Senior Boys category, Baselius College, Kochi in the College Boys category along with the School Girls of Umthli Secondary School, Shillong. Collectively, these four teams have notched up 55 goals in the National Championships so far, and nobody can doubt that they will be looking to expand that tally in the finals.

Talking about a never die attitude, some teams have emerged victorious despite the odds having been stacked against them. Finishing runners-up in their groups, the Senior Boys of Rosary Higher Secondary School, Goa, School Girls of P.S. Senior Secondary School, Chennai and the College Boys of Zakir Hussain, Delhi have all had to defeat the table toppers of their other respective groups in order to progress to the final.

Individual talents are also feature as to why certain teams are able to stand-out. Takhellambam Thoi Singh is one such player who has been the backbone of his side The Unique Model Academy, Imphal in the Junior Boys category. Not only does he lead the charts in the Golden Boot category with 7 goals to his name, but he is also top in the Golden Ball category emphasizing the fact that he is the most key player for his side as they head into the finals. With very little to choose from between the finalists in each category, 6th January will provide a spectacle where we will witness a clash between the best young talents of the whole country.
