Reliance Foundation Athletes Shine at Asian Indoor Athletics Championships At Theran In Iran

The Reliance Foundation athletes made a remarkable impact at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships 2024, showcasing their prowess and determination at the international stage. The latest edition of the tournament was held from Feb 17 at Tehran in Iran. 15 athletes represented India in the event and 7 of those were RF athletes. 

All eyes were on Jyothi Yarraji who was aiming to upgrade her silver from the last edition of the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships. She emerged as a standout performer as she clinched the gold medal in the 60m hurdles with an outstanding time of 8.12 seconds. Incidentally she set a new national record and personal best yet again. Impressively, it was the 11th occasion when Jyothi had shattered the national record, illustrating her consistency.

Debutant Dhanvir Singh showcased promise in his first-ever international indoor event, securing a commendable 4th position in Shot Put with a distance of 18.59m.

Tejas Shirse displayed exceptional form, achieving a remarkable personal best of 7.75 seconds in Round 1 of the 60m hurdles. Although he finished 5th in the final with a time of 7.80 seconds, his performance exemplified his potential and dedication.

Elakkiyadasan demonstrated his speed and skill by clocking 6.75 seconds in the 60m heats. Despite a valiant effort, his semi-final timing of 6.79 seconds fell short of securing a spot in the finals.

Mohammed Afsal, who clinched the top spot in the Heats with an impressive time of 1:53.54, showcased his prowess in his debut international indoor event. Recording a timing of 1:55.16, Afsal secured a commendable 6th place in the 800m Finals. Meanwhile, Baranica Elangovan, also making her debut on the international indoor stage, exhibited her talent by securing the 5th place in Pole Vault with a height of 3.80m. This marked a promising start to her competitive journey.
