RFDL Regional Qualifiers Mizoram Recap: Chawnpui, Chanmari & Ramthar Veng Go Through

The Regional Qualifiers of the Reliance Foundation Development League (RFDL) in Mizoram saw three teams progress to the National Group Stage. Chawnpui FC were crowned champions while Chanmari FC stood runners-up as the two sides were divided by very fine margins in the table. Additionally, Ramthar Veng FC made the cut along with Kerala Blasters from the Kerala region as the third-best ranked teams thanks to their superior record in the Qualifiers.

It was a neck-and-neck race to the top of the table between Chawnpui and Chanmari right from the beginning. The former began their campaign slowly with a 3-1 defeat against Ramthar Veng FC. Since the defeat in the first match, Chawnpui FC made a quick turnaround and went on to register two back-to-back wins over Chanmari West and 1st Battalion MAP FA. Whilst doing so, they netted 12 times and conceded only once. The record testified their robustness in the defence and the ferociousness in the attack.

On the other hand, Chanmari FC played out a thrilling 3-3 draw in their opening game of the qualifiers against SYS FC. However, the team bounced back strongly and went on to pick up three consecutive wins, including a 6-2 triumph over crosstown rivals Chanmari West at the MFA Ground.

Their first setback came in the fifth round when they squared up against regional favourites Chawnpui FC. The eventual champions produced a stunning comeback after trailing by two goals in the first half. Three strikes in the span of 10 minutes in the second half from Rinfela, Sawma and Suangaihmuana meant Chawnpui took home all the three points.

Chawnpui FC went on to record two wins with huge margins. In the seventh round, they found the back of the net seven times against Chanmari West and followed it up with a 6-1 victory over 1st Battalion MAP in the next round at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium.

In the meanwhile, Ramthar Veng FC continued to put in the hard yards and pick up narrow, yet crucial wins. In the seventh round, the team edged contenders Chanmari FC 2-1 as they kept themselves within touching distance of the top of the table.

Finally, heading into the business end of the campaign, the teams stepped their games up and delivered some awe-inspiring performances. The young stars of tomorrow proved their calibre and assured the nation that the future of Indian football is in good hands.

Ramthar Veng FC finished their campaign on a positive note as they downed SYS FC and Chanmari West FC in the eighth and the ninth rounds respectively. In their final game, they held on to a 1-1 draw against 1st Battalion MAP and stood firm in third place with 19 points to their name.

Elsewhere between Chawnpui and Chanmari, the race to finish atop the table went down to the wire. It all came down to the last matchday on 6th April, when the two sides locked horns against each other in one of the most exciting clashes from the Regional Qualifiers in Mizoram in the Reliance Foundation Development League.

Chanmari FC edged past their counterparts in a 1-0 win at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium as the two teams stood equal on points (20) in the table after 10 games. However, it was the latter who were named champions, thanks to their superior goal difference. Nevertheless, both teams made it through to the next phase of the RFDL and were later joined by Ramthar Veng FC to mark a fruitful phase for Mizoram.

It was certainly a campaign full of positives for the three sides as they dominated the statistical leaderboards. Suangaihmuana of Chawnpui finished as the top scorer of the region with 10 goals, followed by PC Lalruatsanga of Ramthar Veng at nine goals.
