Celebrating International Women’s Day 2022 with RFYS

Tuesday, 8th March 2022 marks International Women’s Day and this year’s theme is all about “Breaking the Bias”.This year RFYS brings Motiv8 March Ahead to celebrate women’s achievements of those who #BreakTheBias; women who continue to break down barriers in an industry that is often still not welcoming, where their presence is far from the norm, and women who show young girls that they can stay in the game. With women breaking records and stereotypes every day, RFYS highlights the hardworking and determined athletes in their respective sports. With different sub-divisions in athletics (School Girls, Junior Girls, Senior Girls, and College Girls) and School Girls in Football, possibilities are infinite in the RFYS National Championships.

  • Long Jump

With a lot of competition in these events, these women athletes trained extremely hard and gave it their all during their events to make sure they walk with their heads high as they walked away with the gold medal in the RFYS Athletics National Championship 2019-20.

These are the athletes that stood out from the rest:

  • Mahima Nair, High Jump (Junior Girls)

Mahima Nair from Mount Shivalik High cleared the 1.55 Mt mark to win Gold in the Junior Girls High Jump Final at the RFYS Athletics National Championship 2019-20.

Mahima faced tough competition from Aarya Aniruddha who was inches away and Dhanushiya K who was able to clear the 1.50 Mt mark.

 

  • Neha Parvin, Long Jump (Junior Girls)

Neha Parvin from the Meena Sarojini High School clinched Gold in the Junior Girls Long Jump Final of RFYS Athletics National Championship 2019-20.

She executed a jump of 5.25 Mt which took her past Lakshanya SN who finished with a close 5.21 Mt. Sabita Toppo came third with a jump of 5.16 Mt.

 

  • Shiksha, Shot Put (Senior Girls)

Shiksha from R.E.D Sr. Secondary School managed a distance of 14.24 Mt. in the Finals of the Senior Girls Shot Put event to take home the Gold at the RFYS Athletics National Championship 2019-20.

Simranjeet Kaur came second with 13.85 Mt. while Jannatpreet Kaur finished third with 13.31 Mt.

 

  • Hemamalini, Javelin (College Girls)

Hemamalini from SDNB Vaishnav College for Women was the only athlete to breach the 40 Mt mark in the College Girls Javelin Throw Final at the RFYS Athletics National Championship 2019-20.

Priyanka Toppo was the second-best distance being 35.79 Mt and Snigdha Khanra settled for the bronze medal with a 34.23 Mt throw.

 

  • Siya Abhijit, 100m (Sub Junior Girls)

Siya Abhijit of the Lakshdham High School was the fastest in the Sub Junior Girls 100 M event at the RFYS Athletics National Championship 2019-20 finishing in just 12.75 seconds.

Subhashree Parida took home the silver medal as she finished in 12.99 seconds while Shreyasi Biswas settled for the bronze medal with a timing of 13.21 seconds.

 

  • Sathi Patra, 100m Hurdles (Senior Girls)

In an extremely tight affair, Sathi Patra of the Ramnarayanpur ACS managed to hold onto the lead and earned the gold by finishing just 0.05 secs ahead of her closest competitor in the Senior Girls 100M Hurdles at the RFYS Athletics National Championship 2019-20.

Vysali G gave her a tough competition but the difference was only 0.05 milliseconds as she took home the silver. Sweta Satappa Chikodi won the bronze with a timing of 15.57 seconds.

 

  • Harita Bhadra, 200m (Senior Girls)

Harita Bhadra from the Ramnivas Ruia Junior was talking to the winds as she finished the Senior Girls 200 M event at the RFYS Athletics National Championship 2019-20 in just 25.98 seconds to earn the gold.

Treesa Mathew won the silver medal with the timing of 26.74 seconds while Rima Bhoi settled for the bronze with a timing of 26.83 seconds.

 

  • Arshitha, 400m (College Girls)

Arshitha S of Christ College IRINJ finished with a timing of 57.48 secs to grab the Gold in the College Girls 400 M Final at the RFYS Athletics National Championship 2019-20.

Vishrutha Chandrasekaran finished in second place with a timing of 58.18 seconds to win silver while Riya Hazra came third with a timing of 58.99 seconds and won the bronze medal.
