RFYS Athletics National Championship 2019-20, Day Three Recap, Part 1

Welcome to the recap for Day Three of RFYS Athletics. The events are held in Mumbai, with the best of the best across all four age groups competing for the Gold, Silver and Bronze. Check out part one of the recap below!

The first event of the day was the 5000 Meter Final in the College Boys category. In first place was Santhosh Yadav from Charuchandra College with a runtime of 15:15.66 seconds. He shattered the old RFYS seasons record of 15:23.90 by more than eight seconds. The silver went to Abdul Basith KT from Sree Krishna College. He had a runtime of 15:38.10 seconds. Rounding out the top three was SGTB Khalsa College’s Manoj Singh Padiyar with a runtime of 15:40.54 seconds.

The second event of the day, in the Junior Boys category, was the Javelin Throw final. The gold went to Ankan Chandan Bhadra from Baranagar Narendrana with a throw distance of 54.46 meters. In second place was Gaurav Patel from Guru Gobind Singh Sports College with a throw distance of 53.20 meters. Coming in third, from N S International School with a throw distance of 53.18 meters was Mohd Arif.

The next event of the day was the Long Jump Final in the College Boys category. Anas N from Government Arts and Science College was awarded the gold for a jump distance of 7.15 meters. In second place with a jump distance of 6.95 meters was Kartik Tyagi from SSV PG College. Hassan A from Vaikunta Baliga College bagged the bronze with a jump distance of 6.88 meters.

The fourth event of the day, in the College Girls category, was the 5000 Meter Final. Khushbu Gupta from Lucknow University nabbed the gold on the back of a 17:24.97 runtime, breaking old RFYS seasons record of 17:38.21 by more than 13 seconds. In the second place, with a runtime of 17:44.04 seconds was Babitha C from MES Kalladi College. The bronze went to Samsad Ara Begum from Haladia Degree College. Her runtime was 17:49.88 seconds.

The 1500 Meter Final in the Senior Boys category was the fifth event of the day. Bagging the gold was Maharana Pratap Sports College’s Siddhart Phor with a runtime of 4:15.53 seconds. Coming in second, with a runtime of 4:15.69 was Akash K from GRD CPF Matriculation. Rounding out the top three was Sanjay SM from Sri Ramakrishna Matriculation with a runtime of 4:16.13 seconds.
