Asian Games 2026: RF athletes Ancy Sojan, Tejaswin Shankar and Harita Bhadra win medals

Ancy Sojan won her second successive Asian Games long jump silver, while Tejaswin Shankar and Harita Bhadra claimed bronze medals in the decathlon and women’s 200m, respectively.

Reliance Foundation (RF) athletes Ancy Sojan, Tejaswin Shankar and Harita Bhadra were among India’s medal winners at the Asian Games 2026 on Sunday, while Chikitha Taniparthi and Murali Sreeshankar also enjoyed successful outings.

Ancy came agonisingly close to the women’s long jump title before settling for silver. She reclaimed the lead with a 6.53m effort in the fifth round, only for China’s Huang Yingying to leap 6.55m with her final attempt.

Ancy responded with 6.49m but could not regain top spot, finishing just 2cm short of gold. It was the 25-year-old’s second consecutive Asian Games silver after also finishing runner-up in Hangzhou.

RF athlete Tejaswin secured bronze in the decathlon after accumulating 7934 points across the 10 events. He had led the standings after the opening day before slipping to third but did enough in the concluding 1500m to retain his podium position. His tally was also a significant improvement on the 7666 points that earned him silver in Hangzhou.

Harita produced a dramatic finish to take bronze in the women’s 200m, clocking 23.20s and edging the fourth-placed runner by just 0.01 seconds.

Elsewhere, RF athlete Chikitha partnered Sahil Jadhav to reach the compound mixed team archery semi-finals with a 159-154 win over Kazakhstan, while Sreeshankar qualified for the men’s long jump final with a 7.84m effort.

India add more medals across athletics and squash

India enjoyed further success in athletics, with Sarvesh Kushare winning a historic men’s high jump silver after clearing 2.25m. It was India’s first silver in the event and first high jump medal at the Asian Games since 1970.

Parul Chaudhary also claimed bronze in the women’s 3000m steeplechase, setting a national record of 9:08.67.

In squash, Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh won silver medals in the women’s and men’s singles, respectively. Anahat became the first Indian woman to win an Asian Games singles squash silver, while Abhay became only the second Indian man to achieve the feat.

India also assured themselves of three boxing medals, with Parveen Hooda, Ankush Panghal and Narender Berwal winning their respective quarter-finals to progress to the semi-finals.
