The Odisha Reliance Foundation HPC cadets Swadhin and Manisha bag silver at the 2nd Indian Open Jumps & Throws competition

Odisha Reliance Foundation High Performance Centre (HPC) athletes Swadhin Majhi & Manisha Merel grabbed the limelight in the 2nd edition of India Open Jumps & Throws competition that was held at the Inspire Institute of Sports in Bellary, Karnataka.

Fresh from a fruitful outing at the Performance Graded Competitions (PGC) 2023, high jumper Swadhin produced a 2.08m jump which got him a joint silver medal here. That leap was just short of his personal best of 2.11m, which he had registered at last month’s PGC at Odisha’s Kalinga Stadium.

Manisha too bagged a podium finish and took home the silver medal with a jump of 5.96m in Women’s Long Jump. The competition acted as a preparatory meet for the 21-year-old, who has now set her sights on the All-India University Competition, where she hopes to better her record.

Also making an impact at the games were Swagat Behera in the Boy’s Triple Jump & Nikhil Das in the Men’s Long Jump but a podium finish eluded the pair. Swagat managed to go 14.40m but the 18-year-old fell well short of his personal best of 14.95m, which he had registered at the Khelo India Youth Games. Meanwhile, Nikhil managed a jump of 2.00m.

All these four Reliance Foundation HPC cadets will now head into the All India Inter University competition, which is taking place from March 10-12 in Chennai, hoping to return with medals around their necks.
