Dakshin Guwahati JC, Rajdhar Bora HSS, Sundarbari HS and Arya Vidyapeeth College emerge as Guwahati’s Champions

Guwahati’s Nehru Stadium was all set to host Super Sunday’s four enticing encounters. It was a day of reckoning for eight teams as four of those would be crowned as city champions and go on to play in the national championship. With dreams in their eyes and a passion to perform, all eight teams gave it their all in the finals.

Sr. Girls from Dakshin Guwahati Junior College and Royal Global School started the proceedings. Both teams took time to settle their nerves. With both teams failing to capitalize on the opportunities in the first half, they entered the half-time break with a 0-0 scoreline. These two teams had met earlier in the league stage and their game had ended in a draw. The final was also heading towards a tie but Dakshin Guwahati Jr. College scored in the 53rd minute to make it 1-0. The scoreline remained the same till the end and Dakshin Guwahati Junior College won the Sr. Girls Championship.

The second final of the day was played between Sr. Boys of Rajdhar Bora HSS and Dispur Academy. The intense game featured five yellow cards. After an initial tussle to inch ahead, Rajdhar Bora HSS got the better of Dispur Academy as they went 1-0 up in the 30th minute. The scoreline remained the same till the half-time break. Dispur Academy made it 1-1 at the beginning of the second half and doubled their lead in no time by finding the net again in the 66th minute. In a dramatic comeback, Rajdhar Bora HSS scored in the 91st minute to equalize and forced the game into the penalty shootout. They triumphed in the penalty shootout by winning it 4-3 and became the Sr. Boys city champs.

Jr. Boys from Sundarbari High School and Upperdani High School battled it out in the third final. This game was also decided via a penalty shootout. The first half of the game went goalless and both teams came out in the second half determined to take the lead. Sundarbari High School made it 1-0 minutes into the second half. What followed was a goalless passage of play till the 55th minute when Upperdani High School scored to make it 1-1. The game went into penalties and Sundarbari High School emerged victorious. They won the Jr. Boys city championship by defeating Upperdani High School 1(5)–1(4).

Nehru Stadium was lit up to host the last game of the day. The College Boys final was played between Arya Vidyapeeth College and Assam Engineering College under lights. Arya Vidyapeeth College caught the spotlight by going 1-0 up in the 21st minute. They maintained their lead and went into the half-time break as favorites. Arya Vidyapeeth College maintained possession at the start of the second half and continued to control the game. Their dominance was evident when they made it 2-0 in the 71-st minute. Arya Vidyapeeth College scored two more times before the full-time whistle and became College Boys Champions owing to their 4-0 victory.

Today’s matches in Mumbai were played at Priyadarshini Park and Somaiya Ground. These three games saw an astonishing 45 goals. Majority of those were scored by Antonio Dsouza High School as they overpowered Vivek English High School 23-0. Don Bosco High School won 14-0 against Karthika High School & Jr. College, and Sundatta High School defeated BKM High School 7-1.
