Ritika Govaes’ outstanding performance uplifts Mumbai

Reliance Foundation Youth Sports (RFYS) held fixtures as the games took place in full flow with teams clashing amongst one another in a quest for the ultimate prize.

It was Rachana School all the way in Ahmedabad as they didn’t let their opposition, Ahmedabad International School have even a sniff of a chance throughout the game. Vatsal Vimlesh Sharma made it a lot easier for his team, as his clinical finishing credited him with 4 goals and a Player of the Match award in a 6-0 thrashing. On the contrary, the game between Baroda High School and Anand Niketan Satellite Campus was a whole different ball game. Having taken the lead, Anand Niketan were defending with everything they had, until a late equalizer left them in utter despair. The game finished 1 a piece, but the contrasting emotions at the final whistle, were very clear for everyone to see.

Mumbai was today the venue where probably the most thrilling and nerve-wracking games were played out. Both Balmohan Vidyamandir English Medium and Saint Lawrence High School had to come out victorious over their opponents through penalty shootouts. Eventually both teams won their spot-kicks 3-2 and 4-2 respectively. Ritika Govaes scored 12 goals in her team, Ryan International School’s 14-0 victory over Symbiosis Convent High School. She was deservedly adjudged the Player of The Match for her outstanding statistics.

Penalty shootouts seemed like the trend of the day as the game between Ashoknagar Vidyasagar School & Gangapuri Shiksha Sadan in Kolkata, also had to be settled by the same. Eventually it was Ashoknagar, who prevailed with a 4-3 win in the spot-kicks after neither team could break the deadlock during normal time.
