RFYS Football Season 2022-23: Goals Galore in the Hyderabad City Championship finals: Guess who lifted the title

A grand total of 27 goals were scored on the finals day as five teams were crowned champions.

The Hyderabad City Championship witnessed a grand finale on November 3, 2022, as five teams lifted the trophy to seal an engrossing season. Telangana State Sports School, Dr. Y.S.R. Sports School, Govt. Boys High School and Bhavans Vivekananda College were crowned as the champions of Hyderabad in their respective categories of the RFYS Football Season 2022-23.

Telangana State Sports School, who took a two-goal lead before half-time, fended off the challenge of Loyola Academy Jr College to win the Senior Boys title after a 4-0 victory.

The final of the School Girls category was also another one-sided affair with Dr. Y.S.R. Sports School beating Telangana State Sports School 5-0. Dr. Y.S.R. School had an early three-goal lead, which they added on to in the second half.

 

In the Junior Boys final, Govt. Boys High School were off the mark early, taking a 5-0 half-time lead. Despite Army Public School Golconda’s best efforts, Govt. Boys High School sealed the title with a 6-2 success.

The Sub Junior Boys final saw Dr. Y.S.R Sports School play Oakridge International School. Dr. Y.S.R Sports School backed up a dominant first-half performance with an equally good second half to win the final 7-1.

Bhavans Vivekananda College won the title after an enthralling final against Loyola Academy Degree and PG College in the College Boys category. With the game tied at 1-1, Bhavans won the penalty shootout to draw the curtain on an entertaining finals day at Hyderabad.

Earlier in the week, the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports football season at Hyderabad saw semi-finals action on November 1 and 2, 2022.

In the Senior Boys category, Loyola Academy Jr. College were involved in a closely-fought game and ended on the right side of a five-goal thriller against Kendriya Vidyalaya I Golconda. Meanwhile, Telangana State Sports School also conquered the semi-final hurdle, beating Army Public School 2-1.

The two semi-finals in the School Girls category were one-sided encounters, with the winners raging a goal fest. Telangana State Sports School scored nine goals and kept a clean sheet in a dominant win over The Future Kids School. In the other final-four match, Dr. Y.S.R. Sports School asserted their dominance over St. Andrews School, winning 17-0 to advance into the final.

In the College Boys semi-finals, Bhavans Vivekananda College were the first team to make it to the final after beating Wesley Degree College 2-0. Loyola Academy Degree and P.G. College also secured safe passage in the final after winning by a penalty shootout against Anwar-Ul-Uloom College.

Dr. Y.S.R. Sports School had another goal fest in the Sub Junior Boys semi-final, smashing eight goals against The Future Kids School. Oakridge International School won the other semi-final by a 4-1 scoreline against Telangana State Sports School.

In the Junior Boys category, 23 goals were scored in the two semi-finals. Army Public School and Govt. Boys High School contributed to 22 of them, sealing their spots in the final.
