RFYS Football Season 2022-23: Raining Goals in finals see Chennai leg come to a close

An entertaining three-day semi-final and final carnival in Chennai witnessed the young champs light up the city with some mesmerizing performances.

To begin with, Don Bosco Higher Secondary School Perambur clinched the Sub Junior Boys (U-14) and Senior Boys (U-18) categories with contrasting wins over their respective opponents.

While the Sub Junior Boys team cruised to an easy 6-1 win over Madras Christian College Higher Secondary School, the Senior Boys side had to fight till the very end versus J.J. Government Boys Higher Secondary School as they emerged victorious 4-3 on penalties after the regulation time ended 1-1.

Talking about the College Boys (U-23), S.R.M. Institute of Science and Technology sailed through to a 3-0 victory against Loyola College.

The other two categories, namely School Girls (U-18) and Junior Boys (U-16) saw dominating wins for N.L.C. Girls Higher Secondary School and J.J. Government Boys Higher Secondary School, respectively.

N.L.C. Girls Higher Secondary School got the better of Bentinck Higher Secondary School for Girls by a 5-0 scoreline while J.J. Government Boys Higher Secondary School netted four goals to win the championship against Madras Christian College Higher Secondary School.

Before D-Day, the semi-final stage took place on November 28 and 29 were four teams in each category battled it out for a spot in the final.

It began with S.R.M. Institute of Science and Technology's Senior Boys bagging a narrow 1-0 win over the Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science. Loyola College too edged past VELS Institute of Science, Technology, and Advanced Studies 2-1 to round off the category later in the day.

The two Sub Junior Boys semis saw a couple of goalless stalemates before the sides held their nerves in the penalty shootouts to progress to the finals.

 

Madras Christian College Higher Secondary School and Don Bosco Higher Secondary School Perambur won their respective matches in the under-14 category to set up the summit clash.

The Senior Boys semis were staged with one match on either day.

While Don Bosco Higher Secondary School Perambur managed a hard-fought 1-0 win against Evaans Matriculation Higher Secondary School, J.J. Government Boys Higher Secondary School breezed past Wesley Higher Secondary School 5-1 on the following day.

The Junior Boys category saw a showering of goals as a total of 20 were smashed in the two semi-finals.

Madras Christian College Higher Secondary School dismantled St. Michael's Academy 14-1 whereas J.J. Government Boys Higher Secondary School beat Madras Christian College Matriculation Higher Secondary School 5-0.

In the Girls’ discipline, Bentinck Higher Secondary School for Girls defeated M.W.A Matriculation Higher Secondary School by 3-1 as N.L.C. Girls Higher Secondary School thrashed Immaculate Heart of Mary's Girls Higher Secondary School 5-0 in the following match.
