Young prodigies light up the stage - Mumbai and Guwahati City Championships produce entertaining finales

The young guns of Mumbai and Guwahati made their presence felt on the big stage with their exuberance and trickery.

The City Championships in Mumbai and Guwahati draw curtains to a spectacular footballing season in these cities. Young football prodigies gathered under one roof to showcase their talents and enjoy the beautiful game, and in the process, a few of them made headlines as well.


Mumbai City Championship 2022-23

 


The Mumbai City Championship 2022-23 finals across five categories took place on December 15.
Rizvi College of Arts and Commerce took the Senior Boys title after a comprehensive performance in the final against Kishinchand Chellaram College.          After scoring two early goals in the opening 10 minutes, Rizvi College scored another in the second half. Their opponents pulled one goal back but lost the match 3-1.
In the semi-finals, the eventual champions got the better of Fr Agnel School & Junior College. It was a closely-contested match where Rizvi College edged their opponents 3-2.
Interestingly, both these institutions also made it to the final of the College Boys category. Rizvi College emerged triumphant 3-1 in this game against Kishinchand Chellaram College, bringing home two titles.
Dhirubhai Ambani International School won the School Girls competition by defeating St. Andrews College of Commerce & Arts in the final. Although St. Andrews scored the first goal of the match, Ambani International fought back to take the lead before the first half ended. They scored three more in the second half to emerge victorious by a 5-1 margin.
Don Bosco Matunga played out a pulsating final against Fr Agnel Multipurpose School in the Junior Boys category. Don Bosco took an early lead but their fate kept hanging until the final 10 minutes, where they scored again to make it 2-0.
In the semi-finals, Fr Agnel School defeated St Xaviers High School while Don Bosco School registered an emphatic 5-1 win against St Paul’s High School.
Fr. Agnel Multipurpose School defeated St. Paul’s High School in the Sub Junior Boys final to win their only title of the City Championship. They also defeated Don Bosco Matunga by a 3-1 margin in the semi-final, whilst St. Paul’s High School defeated Don Bosco Nerul in a one-sided semifinal that finished 4-1.

Guwahati City Championship 2022-23

 


The finals of the Guwahati City Championship 2022-23 took place on December 13 and plenty of goals were scored across the five summit clashes.
Raising Star English School provided the most eyebrow-raising result of the day in the School Girls Category. They won the final against Dispur College by smashing 13 goals past their opponents. The game witnessed three hat-tricks coming from Kalyani Das (five goals), Sumi Das (four goals), and Babita Das (three goals).
Dispur College had something to smile about in the College Boys category, winning the final against Assam Engineering College. It was one of the other high-scoring finals of the day, with Dispur College scoring five goals.
The Senior Boys final between Province College and Bampather Begenabari High School was the only match that went to penalties after both teams scored one goal each in normal time. Bampather Begenabari won the shootout and took home the title.
Dr. S. Radhakrishnan Academy produced a staggering finish in the Sub Junior Boys category final. They won the match 4-1 against Gyan Education Institute, with three of their goals coming in the final 10 minutes.
Pandu Adarsha High School won the Junior Boys final against Sundar Bari High School 1-0, with the solitary goal coming in the second half.
