Reliance Foundation Youth Sports 2017 returns to Chennai!

Reliance Foundation Youth Sports football tournament arrived at yet another city, as the first match kicked off in Chennai today. In the two matches played today in the College Boys category, Gurunanak College of Arts and Science took on Tamil Nadu Physical Education Sports University, while SRM University Ramapuram took on KCG College of Technology.

In the first match, Gurunanak College took the lead in the eighth minute as their striker, Aditya Kumar, took advantage of a bad touch by the opposition’s defender and kicked the ball in the back of the net, leaving the goalkeeper stunned by the power of the shot. Tamil Nadu University’s midfielder B.Manimozhi then got a yellow card in the 24th minute for a harsh tackle. The first half was filled with some good gameplay by Gurunanak College and a couple of good saves from the Tamil Nadu University’s goalkeeper. Gurunanak College got the all-important goal in the first half, as the second half of the game witnessed some sloppy defending from Tamil Nadu University. Gurunanak found themselves hitting the woodwork a couple of times but did not manage to double the advantage. Striker Aditya Kumar was the Player of The Match on this day for his solitary effort that clinched the victory for Gurunanak College.

The second game in Chennai was an intense affair, as the first eight minutes of non-stop action between SRM University Ramapuram and KCG College of Technology culminated when a shot from defender Vishnu Saju from inside the penalty area put SRM University in the lead. KCG College equalized six minutes later, courtesy a long-range effort from striker Allen Rahul. There was plenty more action in the first half with SRM University and KCG College missing a couple of opportunities to get in the lead again, but both the teams finished the first half with one goal each, with a notion that they could have scored more. Both teams started the second half determined to score, but the goalkeepers had plans of their own, ably standing up to the challenges and delivering. Firstly, it was the SRM goalkeeper who displayed great athleticism by deflecting a long-range shot. The KCG goalkeeper then made a couple of good saves as both the teams were looking for a way to assert themselves in the second half. KCG College’s persistence finally paid off, as they finally got the lead in the 51st minute when Striker Allen Rahul scored his second goal. This goal turned out to be the match winning one as KCG College of Technology won 2-1 at full-time. Striker Allen Rahul was judged the Player of The Match for his winning brace.

The games resume in Delhi tomorrow, the 6th of September. Follow all the action on www.rfyouthsports.com, and find updates on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
