National Championship Team Profile: Rosary HSS

This Goan team has shown their defensive caliber by keeping their goal post in the City Championship as silent as a grave. Under the Senior Boys category in National Championship, the Rosary boys may not be a bunch of outrageous goal-scorers, but they are certainly one of the most clinical defensive units in the tournament. Rosary HSS have displayed composed and organized football, compared to a free-flowing end-to-end attacking trend of football in the recent times, and proved that matches can be won by with this kind of football as well.

Rosary HSS began their campaign with a goalless draw. They built upon their strengths and went on to become Goa’s City Champions after a clinical 4-0 win against Govt. Higher Secondary School in the Senior Boys final. They’ve scored 27 goals in 8 matches of City Championship phase displaying their attacking prowess, but they have also made sure that they are not defensively reckless by keeping 7 clean sheets and conceding just one goal.
They hopped into National Qualifiers with great confidence and that confidence paid off as they won both the games with much ease, defeating the Champions of Kolhapur by 4-1 despite trailing in the match 1-0 at one point. Joybert Almeida and Asfin Pinto both scored a brace in this fixture and going forward, these two attackers will have a crucial role to play in taking their team to the top.

Goa’s love for the game is historical and these youngsters have seen, experienced and absorbed this love over the years. This tournament has provided a platform to express and Rosary HSS boys will leave no stone unturned to fully express themselves while pushing themselves forwards towards bigger goals.
