Our Athletes At FISU World University Games In Chengdu

The latest edition of the FISU World University Games (Summer edition) is knocking at the door and we have plenty to look forward to. This is the largest global sports event for budding student-athletes and holds great importance for the youngsters. The upcoming event will be held at Chengdu, China from July 28 to August 8, 2023.

The event will see 8 of our athletes competing with some of the best young talents across the globe. Among those 8, all eyes will certainly be on Jyothi Yarraji who has been growing in confidence with back-to-back medal-winning performances. Jyothi will be competing in 100m Hurdles in which she has excelled in the past few months. She will be going into the tournament on the back of a gold medal in 100m Hurdles in the recently concluded Asian Athletics Championships 2023. Along with Jyothi, another promising youngster aiming for glory in the 100m Hurdles event is Pragyan Sahu.

Amlan Borgohain is the other athlete to look out for as he’s India’s fastest sprinter at the moment. The Assamese sprinter has been in sublime form of late and is hoping for a stellar show in Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games. He will be competing for glory in as many as three categories - 100m, 200m, and 4x100m Relay, thus raising hopes of a medal from the event. Along with Amlan, we have Lalu Prasad Bhoi competing in the 100m event as well. The young sprinter will also be competing alongside Amlan in the 4x100m Relay event.
The other athletes participating in the event are Yamandeep Sharma (Decathlon), Susmita Tigga (3000m Steeplechase), Manisha Merel (Long Jump), and Swadhin Majhi (High Jump). All these 4 athletes along with Lalu Prasad and Pragyan Sahu train with Odisha RF Athletics High Performance Center and have been showing signs of a bright future. Yamandeep Sharma is fresh off a silver-medal-winning show at the 62nd National Inter State Senior Athletics Championships 2023 and will be aiming for the best in Chengdu. Both Manisha and Susmita gave promising performances in the Khelo India University Games held in the month of June. Swadhin Majhi also registered a silver medal in the same event and will be aiming to better his performance at Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games.

It remains to be seen how the Indian contingent perform at this extremely crucial event. The expectations are raised as all these young athletes have shown the potential to excel at the highest level, and the FISU World University Games in Chengdu will be the perfect platform for them to prove their mettle.
